History Of Charville Community Association

In 1977 Charville was quite a close knit Community but had nowhere for the Community to meet. With no church or public house in it’s area, when the queens Jubilee took place a group of residents, led by Charles Farmer, got together to find somewhere to hold a party and to raise funds.

A successful party & Fun Day was held in Hayes Park School with a procession of children & their families marching in Fancy Dress to the school. Future parties were planned for the following Christmases and soon residents were raising funds by holding Mini-markets, & sponsored runs to raise money for their own building.
In 1980 the Council was asked for a piece of land and a derelict piece of waste land on the corner of Bury Avenue & Charville Lane was chosen. With the help of funding from the G.L.C. (John McDonnell, Labour MP for Hayes, & Deputy Leader of the G.L.C.) and the local Council and the C.C.A.s own funds, the building was started in August 1983 and finally opened in late 1984.

Now Charville is thriving, opened throughout each day, catering for all ages from Parents & Toddlers & Playgroups, through to Senior Citizens clubs. It is probably unique in that only the land is leased from the Council but the Association owns the building. It has it’s own bar which proudly displays paintings on the wall presented to the Club by the Art Group. It holds regular events for C.H.A.D., the Consortium for Housebound & Disabled pensioners and runs a craft club as well as a social afternoon for the older members. A non-denominational church service is held there at 10am every Sunday, followed by a cup of tea or coffee so why not come & join us for a warm welcome at one of our many activities.

Regular Dances, Quizz Nights & Social Functions are held as well as Bingo and the hall is occasionally let for private parties & weddings.
