It is difficult to say when the Eastcote Association was formed but discussion regarding the need for a Community centre was recorded at a meeting held on September 18th 1947. A public meeting was held the following week with a J.P. and members of both the Middlesex County Council and Ruislip/Northwood Urban District Council present. The present site was mentioned at that time in reply to a question.
The Association took occupation of the site on the corner of Oak Grove and Southbourne Gardens, Eastcote in 1950 and is one of the Boroughs oldest community associations. The E.C.A. grew steadily, having joined the Federation at its inception in 1967, until 1985 when the oldest building was pulled down to make way for the modern brick hall (Oak Hall) completed in 1987. During the restriction on activities during that period, alternative venues were found, e.g. Bourne School and the Cavendish Pavilion to maintain interest and avoid loss of membership. Membership has continued to grow ever since.
In addition to Eastcote, the Centre draws membership from the old Wards of Cavendish, Bourne, Manor, St.Martins & Ruislip although many come from elsewhere in the borough. Being on the edge of the borough it attracts members from Harrow, Pinner, Northolt, as well as retaining the membership of those who have moved away. The Centre has no bar facility but current membership is close to 1.000; the attraction being the quality and variety of the activities
(see activities list)
Eastcote C.A.has developed to be very much the centre of the community, hosting numerous community & public meetings, as well as being a surgery for the local MP, the base for the local Police & Community Liaison Group, W.I., Townswomens Guild & the Cavendish Ward Polling Station.
Eastcote also hosts a holiday playscheme which proves very popular.
