Buses: U9 from Uxbridge every half hour to Harefield Hospital and the 331 from Uxbridge to Mount Vernon Hospital every 20 minutes peak times / 30 mins. evening & weekends.
History:
The Harefield Centre was originally built over 50 years ago by the Peerless Group of Companies but the club nearly died out until the tennis club started up and it was known as the Harefield Tennis & Social Club and its small hall was let out.
The South Harefield Residents Association was formed in 1946 by the residents of South Harefield & in October 1948 they changed their name to South Harefield Community Association. In 1967 it was decided to embrace the whole village and once again the name was changed to Harefield Community Association
In 1974 a mammoth fund raising effort raised over 11,000 in three years. A further 33,000 was given to them to extend their centre and in 1977 the extension was finally opened.
Sections now come from all over to use the Centre:
- A Stroke Support Group is held on the first & third Wednesday of the month, where stroke patients are collected from all over Hillingdon by volunteers.
- An indoor bowls section meet 3 times a week during the winter months. Other regular groups include Bingo, Fitness n Fun, Ladies Club,various dance groups including Line dancing, Tea Dances, and end of Month Dances as well as Judo and interest groups such as wine & beer making. The Happy Families section welcomes toddlers and their carers to their fun filled session on a Thursday morning.
- The CAMEO group (Come and Meet Each Other) has been running for several years now with interesting speakers, Bring & Buy Sales and tea afternoons.
- Whist is played on the 1st, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Thursday in the month. A new Bridge section has just started on a Friday morning.
- During the summer months the centre holds a social evening on a Friday with activities such as bowls, pool, dominoes, music, or just for a friendly chat.
- The hall is used for other Social events such as Quiz Nights, Square dances, & Theme evenings as well as being available for private lets.
