The HFCA is a local federation for community associations with nineteen members across the borough. We provide help, support and advice to community associations across Hillingdon as well as funding opportunities. The members meet on a regular basis to discuss ideas and problems across all of the community associations in the borough of Hillingdon.
History of The HFCA
After the last war the need to continue in the ‘Community Spirit' led to the formation of Community Associations, the first 2 arising in Hillingdon at Hayes & Harlington, and at Eastcote. Gradually others were formed, some with the help of the local urban district councils, and some by local communities raising funds (e.g.Charville raised funds by holding mini markets & sponsored runs &, by working in partnership with the G.L.C. and the L.B.H., built their own centre)
In November 1967 the Federation was formed and in January 1975 a field community worker was appointed to review the work of Community Associations over a period of 3 years. The Hillingdon Borough had ‘inherited' the Community Centres from the 3 local urban district councils, Hayes & Harlington, Yiewsley & Westdrayton, & Ruislip & Northwood and asked for an audit of its premises.
Some of our more successful Centres are so large they have over 1,000 people going through their doors each week whilst others are struggling with a handful of volunteers and may have less than 100 a week but still are keen to help the community.
The HFCA is a member of Community Matters which is the nationwide federation for community associations and similar organisations, with 1100 members across the UK. |
